Gene switch for regeneration of neural cells in the zebrafish brain developed
Gata3 is an essential component of the regeneration programme in the fish brain
Download Photo. ©CRTD/Kizil and Brand
Description of photo:
Adult zebrafish telencephalon indicating the Gata3 positive cells (red) which are found in the ventricular zone and the neuronal layer (green). Most of the marked Gata3-positive cells (cyan) indicating that these cells proliferated.

New mechanism for regeneration decoded after severe brain injuries in zebrafish
Injuries in the human brain and spinal cord cause an inflammatory response
Download Photo. ©CRTD/Kyritsis and Brand
Description of photo: Zebrafish telencephalon after traumatic brain injury. In the injured telencephalic hemisphere (left) one can observe the ongoing inflammatory response. Leukocytes (green cells) are infiltrating the damaged hemisphere in order to exert their function and phagocytose cells debris. One additional observation is the activation of the ventricularly-located radial glial cells in the injured hemisphere as shown with staining for the proliferation marker PCNA (red cells).
